What to know about İbradı

İbradı is a small district of deep Taurus valleys with a population of only a few thousand. What made its name is the village of Ormana, where the nail-free buttoned houses survive at the scale of a whole settlement.

Its other draw is Altınbeşik Cave, which holds underground lakes and is entered by boat when the water is high; reaching the mouth means a steep stair climb.

Everything around is cedar and juniper forest. Tourism here is small in scale, which is exactly what makes it valuable for anyone escaping the crowds.

When to go

April-June and September-October are best. The lake level in Altınbeşik is high in spring, which is the only time the boat trip runs. Snow and road conditions make winter access difficult.

Getting there

One hundred and forty-five kilometres from central Antalya, about 2.5 hours by car on the mountain road via Manavgat. Alanya is 130 km away. Public transport is very limited, so a car or tour is needed.

What to see in İbradı

  • Ormana village

A settlement where buttoned-house architecture survives at village scale. Best explored on foot; a few houses operate as guesthouses.

  • Altınbeşik Cave

A cave with underground lakes, entered by boat when levels allow. Steep stairs lead to the mouth, and a visit takes about an hour.

  • Cedar forest walks

Routes through cedar and juniper along the valleys. Visitor numbers are low and the trails stay quiet.

Frequently asked questions

Is Altınbeşik Cave always visited by boat?+

No. The boat trip runs in spring, when the lake is high enough. When water drops, only the entrance section can be walked.

Can you stay in Ormana village?+

Yes — several traditional houses operate as guesthouses. Capacity is small, so book ahead, especially in spring and autumn.
