The best time to visit Alanya is not one month but several, depending on what you want from the trip. Alanya has one of the longest swimming seasons on the Turkish coast: the sea is properly warm from May to early November. But "when should I come?" has a different answer depending on what you want from the trip.
Spring (April: May): the locals' favourite
Spring is when people who live here take their own days off. The Taurus mountains are still green, daytime highs sit around 22–27 °C, and the big excursions run without the summer queues. The sea is fresh in April (around 19 °C) and genuinely swimmable from mid-May. If you want to walk up to the castle or hike Sapadere without melting, this is your window.
Summer (June: August): full power
July and August are hot, 33–38 °C most days, with the sea at 28–29 °C. It is the season of beach clubs, foam parties and late dinners at the harbour. Two honest warnings: book popular boat trips a day or two ahead, and plan outdoor activities for the morning. Anything in the mountains, like the Green Canyon boat day, is noticeably cooler than the coast and makes a perfect mid-holiday break from the heat.
Autumn (September: October): the sweet spot
Ask ten Alanya locals for the best month and at least seven will say September. The sea is at its warmest, the air drops back to the high 20s, hotel prices soften and the light turns golden. October is quieter still, and you can normally swim until the end of the month.
Winter (November: March): quiet and mild
Winter Alanya is a small Turkish town again. Daytime temperatures of 15–18 °C, empty beaches, and the castle to yourself. Many tourist restaurants close, but the town centre stays alive. It is a walking-and-tea season rather than a swimming one.
- Warmest sea: late August. September
- Best value: late April. May and October
- Liveliest nightlife: July. August
- Quietest sightseeing: November. March
Whenever you come, the rule of thumb is simple: mornings for activities, afternoons for the beach, evenings for the harbour.

The best time to visit Alanya changes with more than the weather
Three things move together through the year, and they matter as much as the temperature.
Prices. Hotel rates roughly double between late April and mid-August, then fall again from the second half of September. The same room in October often costs what it did in May.
Crowds. July and August bring Turkish holidaymakers as well as international ones, which is why the beaches feel different in those two months than in June.
What is open. From late November a good share of the seasonal restaurants, beach clubs and excursion desks shut until spring. The town does not close, but the tourist layer of it thins considerably.
A short answer, by traveller
The best time to visit Alanya depends on what you are optimising for:
- Families with small children: late May, June or the second half of September. Warm sea, bearable air.
- Couples who want quiet: April, October, early November.
- Nightlife and beach clubs: July and August, no substitute.
- Walking, sightseeing and photography: March to May, then October into early December.
- Budget above all: the first two weeks of May and the whole of October.
