What to know about Konyaaltı

Konyaaltı lies west of central Antalya, where the mountains come closest to the sea. Its long pebble beach holds a Blue Flag, and a shore park with walking and cycling paths runs behind it.

The best-known viewpoint is the Tünektepe cable car: eight minutes to a 618-metre summit with the whole Gulf of Antalya below. On the shore road, Antalya Aquarium has one of the longest tunnel tanks in the world.

Further west the Olympos-Beydağları National Park begins; the Sarısu and Topçam coves and the hiking routes above them are half an hour from the city.

When to go

The sea is warm from May to October. April-June and September-October are ideal for the cable car and the shore walk; on clear winter days you can see snow on the Bey Mountains and the sea in one frame.

Getting there

Antalya Airport (AYT) is 22 km east, a 30-40 minute transfer. Trams and buses run along the shore from the city centre; for Tünektepe and the coves a car or a tour is more practical.

What to see in Konyaaltı

  • Konyaaltı Beach

Seven kilometres of pebbles. The water deepens quickly and stays clear; the shore park behind has cafés, showers and shade.

  • Tünektepe cable car

Eight minutes to a 618-metre summit with a revolving restaurant and a terrace over the whole bay. Sunset is the busiest hour.

  • Antalya Aquarium

A 131-metre tunnel tank and themed halls make this the most visited indoor attraction in the city — a good rainy-day alternative.

  • Sarısu and Topçam coves

Public beaches west of the city where pine forest meets the sea, 15-25 km out. Weekdays are noticeably quieter.

Frequently asked questions

Is Konyaaltı Beach sand or pebble?+

Pebble, which is why the water is so clear — water shoes help. Showers, sunbeds and shade are available along the whole strip.

How long does the Tünektepe cable car take?+

Eight minutes each way; with time at the top, allow 1.5-2 hours. Service can be suspended in strong wind for safety.

How far is it from the city centre?+

About 5 km from Kaleiçi to Konyaaltı Beach — 15 minutes by tram, or roughly an hour on foot along the shore.
