Browse all toursWhat to know about Akseki
Akseki lies on Taurus slopes above 1,000 metres and has kept much of its traditional architecture. In the signature buttoned houses, timber beams laid between courses of stone lock together so the structure flexes rather than collapses in an earthquake.
The villages around it — Sarıhacılar and Güzelsu above all — hold the best surviving examples. The roads are narrow and winding, which is part of why the district remains one of the least altered in Antalya.
The forests are juniper, cedar and oak. Beekeeping and handicrafts are part of the local economy, and the district honey is sought after across the region.
When to go
May to October works well, and altitude keeps it cooler than the coast even in midsummer. Snow falls in winter and village roads get hard. Autumn brings forest colour and the honey harvest.
Getting there
One hundred and fifty-five kilometres from central Antalya, about 2.5 hours by car on a winding mountain road via Manavgat. Alanya is 120 km away. Public transport is sparse, so a car is advised.

Frequently asked questions
What is a buttoned house?+
A local building system in which horizontal timbers are set between courses of stone and interlocked without nails. It flexes in an earthquake instead of collapsing, which is why it has been used for centuries.
Is Akseki a day trip?+
Hard from Antalya, feasible from Manavgat or Alanya. The mountain road makes the drive long, so allow at least a full day.
